CLASS INFORMATION After qualifying as an Exercise to Music Instructor, I wanted to run classes for people who want to do some form of exercise but may feel intimidated going into a class where everyone is super fit and know all the steps and keep in perfect time with the instructor. In reality that does not happen very often but this can be a barrier to getting started.
FITNESS PILATES Fitness Pilates is a group exercise programme designed to enhance posture, strength, balance and stability of a healthy adult. Fitness Pilates is based on the teachings of Joseph Pilates by applying the fundamental Pilates technique which aims to offset musculoskeletal imbalances. IT IS NOT REMEDIAL, CLINICAL OR DIAGNOSTIC IN ITS APPROACH but has its base firmly in group fitness. This class is suitable for both men, women and young adults from the age of 12 years of age. There is no upper age limit, if you are able to get up and down off the floor you are more than welcome. Pilates can be modified to enable those clients who may need to use a chair or are unable to preform some of the exercises to still be able to receive all the benefits. You will need to bring a small cushion & bottle of water and wear comfortable clothing. As a Level 4 Fitness Instructor I can also offer 1-2-1 sessions for those who are unable to attend or do not wish to attend group sessions. Please contact me for further information.
SEATED EXERCISES FOR THE OLDER & LESS MOBILE PARTICIPANT Studies have shown that people who fall regularly are encouraged to do more exercise but what happens is that they fall more frequently as they attempt too much too soon or choose the wrong type of exercise. The American College of Sports Medicine suggest that you need to build up strength before attempting more dynamic movements thus reducing the risk of injury and improving performance. Several studies have shown that seated exercises are the safest & most effective way to strengthen functional muscle groups, increase confidence & skill before transferring to standing. The Chair Based Exercise session is a collection of 17 exercises which are put together to help the participant gain in muscle strength, flexibility, mobility and co-ordination which in turn will help the participant in performing Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s) for example turning on the tap, opening jars, getting in/out of a car, bed or bath etc. The exercises have been researched and put together by Dr Susie Dinan-Young and Dr Dawn Skeltham who are both leaders in their field looking at falls prevention & exercise in the older adult and if performed on a regular basis will enable the participant to stay independent.
FITNESS PILATES FOR IMPROVERS This is the next class for the beginner to progress to once they have mastered the basic principles of Pilates and are able to work through the exercises with precision and control. This class has a little more structure and the exercises are often linked together to form a flowing routine.
